Please make sure to return your registration appointment letters by Wednesday, December 17th. It is extremely important for you to be here when we register your child for their middle school classes. We like to make sure, if you have any questions or concerns, that we address them as soon as possible.
As you all know, eating a healthy snack is part of our school day here at WHES. Sometimes we forget to bring our snack in the morning, or we just plain can't afford to buy them. So, we try to provide snacks here at school. On any given day, we provide anywhere from 5-12 snacks to kids. Unfortunately, we have run out of our supplies. If you would like to donate to our snack box, please do so by bringing them to the main office and letting the secretaries know this is for the snack box in Mrs. Donaldson's room. Thanks so much!!!
Interestingly enough, there is a lot of examples of bullying in the movie Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. And our fourth graders are examining this before Christmas break. We are watching the movie while filling out a sheet with unkind acts, how the characters feel and how the mean characters could do something different. The second day we look at the movie, we are going to talk about the bystanders in the movie and what bystanders can do to help Rudolph. We will then write a letter to Rudolph. FUN!!
Kids like to play. We all know that. But did you know that our kids are not playing enough? The amount of time kids spend on electronic devices now is staggering. Did you ever stop to think what skills our kids our losing by playing on electronic devices? Over the years, as a school counselor, one of the biggest areas of skills that I have been taxed with teaching is social skills...reciprocal play, conversation, how to handle strong emotions, turn taking, waiting, not just in line, but for our turn, how to listen, how to handle losing...the list is endless. I implore you....play with your children. Teach them how to play Uno, Jenga, card games such as Kings in the Corner, Candyland, Monopoly...the memories you will create will be as much a gift to them as it is to you!!!
