WOW!!! That is just about all I can say is...wow!!! We had an amazing visit with our Atlee Seniors today! They were so excited to be here and we were so excited to celebrate them! They even got playground time in! Take a look below at the celebration!
We were so excited about having Mrs. Amos come down and talk to us about becoming a registered nurse. We learned all about the difference between a 2 year and 4 year RN, all the things you need to be to become a nurse (like compassion and patience), tools that nurses use and much much more! We had a fantastic time!!!
We are so excited to have the WHES Atlee Seniors walk through our hallways next week during college and career awareness week! They will be coming down with their caps and gowns on and walking through our halls while we hold signs to celebrate their accomplishments! Here we are getting ready!
As many of you know, I am the parent of an 11 year old. She is absolutely the love of my love. But she is also my greatest challenge. Parenting is hard work. It challenges your creativity, because no consequence works the same on a day to day basis. It asks you what you value most in life. It makes you so exhausted, you can't even see straight. But...it also makes your heart surge with joy when you hear your child's laugh. It makes you more proud than ever when you see your child accomplish something you know they have been working hard on. It makes you cry tears of happiness to see your child become the person you know they are inside!
Having said all of that, I have realized that the phrase, "It takes a village", is more true than we recognize. We are raising digital natives. You may say, "Yes, Mrs. Donaldson. We know that." But, stop and think about what that means. The internet was created in 1983. For many of us, that means most of our childhood, and even into our teenage years, our "native" mode of playing was board games, going outside, riding our bikes, etc. Our kids, however, originated in the day and age of technology. They know the internet inside and out. We need to catch up! Common Sense Media, an amazing organization for parents, teachers and kids, has all kinds of information about navigating the world wide web. You can subscribe to their website and they will send you emails about movies, games, and apps that is so enlightening. Recently, they discussed the app, TikTok. I urge you, read this article: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/blog/parents-ultimate-guide-to-musically?utm_source=NEW+03152019+Tweens-Teens&utm_medium=email You will be glad you did! Happy Parenting my friends!!!
Upcoming events for our Rising Sixth Graders:
-Course Verification Forms came out with Interim reports last week! These are the classes your child signed up for in January. This is just a verification of what we did...NOT their schedule. Nor is this a guarantee of their classes. Please sign and return these ASAP! We have about four more that need to come back in. -March 28: We will go and tour CMS so that the kids can begin to get familiar with their new school. Permission slips for this have already been sent home. Please return these ASAP. We are also looking for chaperones for this trip, so, if you are interested, please let me or your child's teacher know ASAP! |
