So, I have a ritual with my daughter. Every day when we go home, she gets the mail out of the mailbox. She loves to do this! You all know the reason why....yes, she is seeing if SHE got any mail from someone!!! ME...I dread the mail. It seems to always be full of bills. Sigh, but every once in a while, I get a letter from someone. A handwritten letter that makes my day! We, as a society, have gotten away from mailing letters to each other. It is way too easy to text, email, snapchat, etc, instead of taking pen to paper. Well, I decided that, this year, students are going to be getting mail from Mrs. Donaldson. Every time they have guidance class, two students will be getting a "Counselor Gram" from me with just a few encouraging words. Students can then take these home, share them with their parents, and do what they want with them. I hope you get a chance to see these and enjoy them with your children!!!
Starting next week, Sept. 26th, Mrs. Donaldson will be sending out Counselor Grams to students. The students will be getting these during guidance classes. They are just little notes of encouragement! Hope you and your children enjoy them!
Our fifth graders are beginning a Wonder-ous" adventure! They are reading a book with their teachers in their classrooms called Wonder by RJ Palacio. This is a book about a boy who was born with a severe craniofacial difficulty. Because of this and other complications from his condition, he has been home schooled until his fifth grade. This is a heart warming story about how August, the main character, navigates the many changes in his life. Our PTA has purchased a hard copy of the book for each of our students to utilize this year!!! We cannot begin to thank our PTA enough for the amazing support!
The first two weeks of school have flown by! We have started Guidance classes for students here in the counselor cottage. We are reviewing expectations, class dojo, drills, what it takes to earn a guidance gem in class, what my job here at WHES consists of and then career clusters. Check out the guidance classes tabs to get more details!
