How many of us have driven around town and seen Christmas lights up on people's houses? How many of us have seen people with their Christmas trees up in their houses? How many of us are "those" people who have already decorated for Christmas???? No judgment....in fact, if you ARE one of "those" (and I mean in jest :-)) you are probably a pretty happy person! There was a study published recently that concluded that the sooner you put up your Christmas decorations, the happier you are! Cool, ha?
Anyhow, I know most of us are getting geared up for the most wonderful time of the year, but me, I am getting geared up for the time of the year that we just stop and be thankful. I LOVE thanksgiving. No, it isn't because of the food, although that helps. It is because it is the one time of the year dedicated to something that I think is critical to our mental health....and that is GRATITUDE! Being thankful for all that is in our lives makes us more mindful. It makes us focus on what we have and not what we don't have. It is a positive way to look at life. People will like you more. Think about it; when people use their manners and thank you for things, you are more apt to think favorably upon those people. You actually sleep better and have better physical health when you are thankful. I could go on and on about the benefits of gratitude. So, let me start showing my gratitude for you, WHES. I am so thankful that I am the school counselor in this sweet, amazing school. Thank you for letting me spend time with your beautiful children everyday. Thank you for supporting all that we do here to help grow responsible young adults in this ever changing world. Thank you for reading to your child, for checking their Wednesday folders and for signing their report cards. Thank you, for it all! Tis the season....of GRATITUDE!!! |
